When I say screen saver functionality, what I mean is that you can download an app from the App Catalog that plays some sort of screen saver for a set amount of time. The sole purpose of the app would be to show a screen saver. It could allow for customization of the colors to the text to the image, or anything else. This, I think, would be an amazing feature for a mobile device, such as those using Palm webOS. Additionally, you could configure the timeout in either the app or from webOS itself.
Similarly, when I say custom lock screen apps, what I mean is I want to see a new category of apps that let me lock my phone, tablet, or printer however I want. This could mean it is a simple 4 digit pin, a 7 character password, or something where I must tap in the same general area each time. Regardless, the app should enable me to fully lock the device the same way webOS' built-in lock screen works: without the ability to swipe up and close the app. We could make these and put them in the Palm App Catalog, thereby enabling a large possibility of lock screens to suit everyone's desires.
Something that all mobile platforms are missing is the ability to mass delete apps, or at least having it built into the OS. There is some app out for Android now that lets you do this. webOS Quick Install has long supported it, and maybe Preware will too. But what is missing is the ability to mass delete the apps from within webOS itself. Perhaps hold down on the app and a popup submenu will show that allows you to check it for deletion.
The final thing I listed is that I would like to be able to fine-tune the results the App Catalog returns. This means I want more control over just choosing a category. I want more control than typing a search term. I want to be given the basic search options as well as an advanced search option. The "advanced search" should provide the ability to give the minimum price to highest price, have search terms, understand operands (AND, OR, NOT), and even allow me to search based on developer. It should allow me to search based on keywords that developers enter when submitting their app (that the Palm App Review team verifies are legit terms related to the app) so as to ensure I can find exactly what I want. I should also be able to organize based on reviews (not just the stars, but also based on number of reviews, how long ago the bad reviews were left, etc.). Make it amazing and we will have a winner.
Let me know what you want by tweeting me (@arthurthornton). Heck, you should also let @palm know what you want.
